While I acknowledge the Adani mine has been approved by the Queensland Government, I do not believe the Federal Government should provide any money to Adani to help get the coal out of the ground.
There are strict environmental controls that Adani needs to meet for this mine and they need to be held to account if they breach any, at any level. They’ve also promised 10,000 jobs and the multinational corporation needs to provide every one promised.
Australia has a renewable energy target which we need to be working toward today, not tomorrow. Other major economies in Asia are turning to renewables, so we need to stop dragging our feet and do the same. Kicking the can down the road will only cause our children to suffer.
I believe that our nation’s energy future lies firmly with renewables, and not with coal.
